Dr. Sarah Perez is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the Lyell Centre at Heriot Watt University, involved in the ECO-AI project. Trained as a mathematician, she holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Pau in France, where she studied the effects of geochemical processes and fluid-rock interactions for CO2 storage at the pore scale through numerical modelling.
Focusing on rock samples obtained from X-ray microtomography laboratory experiments, her research aims to improve the reliability of the evolution of the macroscopic rock properties, such as porosity and permeability, affected by geochemical interactions. This involves incorporating uncertainty quantification into pore scale images β whether stationary or dynamic β using dedicated and robust mathematical modelling and AI approaches. The knowledge gained from understanding these local uncertainties at the pore scale can then be upscaled to the field scale.
